Romans 10 1Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Ephesians 2:4, But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
In salvation two things are most important. Having faith in Jesus Christ as savior and Lord is like sitting in a chair. To be comfortable in the chair you must totally trust the chair and give yourself into the chair that it will not go down with you. And it if did, you would go down with it. The Biblical concept to believe is to trust in , rely upon and cling to. The second is that you are becoming more each day like Jesus. That a tree is known by it’s fruit. James says, no change, no salvation. (paraphrased) That if the Salvation of Christ Jesus makes little or no change in the life then something is wrong or missing.
The Lord Jesus Christ said one time, “Matthew 7:22‑24 (King James Version) 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
So it is faith that saves but works that confirms.
Often I ask folks, “If a bolt of lightening came through the sky and turned you into a pile of charcoal, where would your soul go. If they say to be with Jesus because I trust in Him for my salvation then I would conclude that they are on the right path. But, as many have said, well... I am a good person, I really try to do what is right. My mother teaches Sunday school or I have gone to church all of my life or I was baptized when I was a child or, or, or then I have no assurance that the person is really in the process of being saved as they are far off from the way and possible in a ditch. Some are there by choice as self is still the king or they may be there due to ignorance. People do die from a lack of knowledge.
Often we tend to assume that people are in the way as we are really very fearful of how they might react to us if we get too personal. But then the Holy Spirit is kind and loving in natural way so usually the gentle sharing of our lives can be more productive in helping someone find the “Way.”
As we are confirmed in your own process of Salvation through our living relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ then the first signs of maturity will be in the winning of souls for our Lord. “Reproduction” If you have never won a soul to our Lord, you never reproduced, then there is a good possibility that you are either yet unsaved or still a child on milk. It is the sheep that bare the lambs. The Pastor is there to make sure the grass is green and the water is clean and to keep the wolves from the flock.
29He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart. 30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. Proverbs 11.
If you have never won a soul into the Kingdom of our Lord just let me tell you it is a great deal more fun and joy for me than stream trout fishing.... And I love to fish. I know exactly what our Lord was saying when He told the Disciples to come and follow Him and He would make them fishers of men. But learning to fish does not guarantee instant success. Securing the tools to be a soul winner in the foundations of the New Testament is required. And a license from the Holy Spirit is also a big help.
