Healing, Chapter1, "Introduction" Ken Smith, ken@Trinity-Aloha.org

One of the factors in the New Testament Church of Acts was the physical supernatural healings of the Early Church.  We would like to spend some time focusing on this area of our Lord's ministry for His Church.

As we study the Holy Scriptures we are finding that there are many emotions that can also make us ill.  Some of the factors that have been found to be related to illness are anger, un-forgiveness,  fear, stress, anxiety and probably a big one is being upset with God.  It appears that perhaps as high as 80% or our disease problems may be rooted in toxic emotions and stressful events.  A scripture for consideration, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he, Prov. 23:7.  There is a chapter concerning healing scriptures on page 99 of my book, "Keys To the Kingdom."  Please write for a free copy,  please send $3.00 for shipping and handling.   Our web site also has the chapter available on your computer: www.Trinity-Aloha.org  Then goto "Keys To The Kingdom" and then the chapter "Healing Scriptures."

It would seem that the first question is does God want us to be in health?   Or why does He allow sickness anyway.

Actually sickness is a result of the Great Rebellion and the curse some 6,000 years ago along with our choices in life today.  Have you ever noticed the verse of Scripture in Acts 5:16. "... and they were healed everyone." or the scripture in   James 5:15, "... And the prayer of faith shall save (heal) the sick?  Our Lord's mission statement in Luke reads like this: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord, Luke 4:18." I can not find any passage where Christ Jesus did not have compassion and healed and sent His Apostles, the 70 and the 120 disciples out to do the same after Pentecost.  In Mark 16:18, Mark writes that our Lord said, "...believers... would lay hands on the sick and they would recover.  No place did our Lord make anyone sick.  So the fist step in healing is that God, your Heavenly Father, wants you to be healthy.

One of the basic problems is when we intellectually read the scriptures it is a head understanding but then we are faced with the problem of making the scripture a matter of heart faith.  In the beginning our Salvation comes to us by heart faith, Romans 10:9-10, so is it any wonder the whole Kingdom of our Lord is built on faith.  But it must be the Hebrews chapter 11 kind of faith.  The kind that, like with Abraham, allowed him to trust what he heard in his heart and to move out of his comfort zone in Ur and simply just follow the leading of the Lord's voice.  It would not hurt to take the time to read that chapter again in Hebrews chapter 11.

For us this will be an exploration into the healing Kingdom of our Lord.  Personally at 74+ I have having some minor aging factors that are somewhat uncomfortable but not debilitating so I tend to ignore them.  But I am aware that as I am getting older unless there are positive resolutions of health in my life that they plus others will possibly gang up on me and cut into my freedom to serve in my Lord's Kingdom.  So I propose that those of you that are interested in healing victories as this vision matures lets work together on getting to be a healthy 120 years as per Our Father's Warranty in Gen.6:3.  Abraham and Moses enjoyed that health in the Old Testament.  Perhaps we can find the breakthroughs to do the same in the power of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament.

Healing, Chapter 2, "God  want's us healthy"

There are many dimensions related to sickness and healing as taught through the Holy Scriptures.  There are health problems arising from the rebellion of Lucifer and Adam that are related to death.  There are health problems that are generated through the sin of family generations.  There are health problems due to what we eat.  There are health problems resulting from toxic emotions, un-forgiveness and negative attitudes.  There are health problems due to the sin out of our own personal choices and actions.  There are health problems due to the improper use of the body that we live in.  And there are often serious side effects from the drugs that have been prescribed for us.  It is always best if the source of a health problem can first be identified prior to seeking healing.

The first primes or axiom of resolving a health problem is that the sickness did not come from God and that our Heavenly Fathers wants us to be healthy and fit.  And further that our Heavenly Father has provided all that we need in Christ Jesus to be Healthy and fit if we but we must make the proper applications of truth and faith according to the Holy Scriptures. If we believe that our sickness is of God then why would we ever go to a doctor in opposition to God?  So how do we know that God does not want us to be sick?

Let us start with our Lord's Mission Statement, AD 30

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and the recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."    Isaiah 64:1,  Luke 4:18

There is not one single scripture in which our Lord did not have compassion and heal.  We find an interesting historical statement concerning healing in the Early Church,  Acts 5:16:   "There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one."  (King James Version),   Ever notice the "every one?"  In other words all were healed or delivered according to the need with no exceptions.  In James 5:14-15 we also find this statement: James 5:14-15, "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:  15  And the prayer of faith shall save (heal) the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him." King James.  Of course St. James also lays down the ground rules in the previous chapters to help us get to find healing ground and to be forgiven.  St. Peter also writes to us, "by whose stripes ye were healed." 2 Pet.2:24 K.J.  I have written this twice in hopes that you will remember.

Many years ago as I began my Christian pilgrimage I was taught that the days of the supernatural had passed  with the death of the last apostle and the collection of the writings of the Holy Bible.  I was young and healthy so that was not a problem.  But now at 74,  I consider Phillip in the light of the supernatural, Acts 8:13 concerning the signs and wonders.  Also the instruction of St. Paul to Timothy (2 Tim.3:5),  he writes: "Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away..."  So I have began to change my mind concerning the supernatural.  The prophet Hosea also writes that we are destroyed by a lack of knowledge, Hosea 4:6.

It would appear that Truth is a very major factor in healing. I have also noticed in the Book of Acts that Unity also seems to be a foundation for healing with faith and love.  Our Lord said that the Truth would set us free.  Assuming that healing is also in that freedom would it not follow that a study concerning healing in the Holy Scriptures would be a starting point.  So as space allows, in April we will seek to gather the Holy Scriptures together to encourage our faith concerning healing.  If you have a favorite scripture concerning healing please send it along for inclusion: ken@Trinity-Aloha.org

It must be understood that knowing a scripture in the head and believing a scripture in the heart are totally different.  So even if we understand the principles of healing we may still have a problem with believing, 1 Cor.13.2.  It is like asking a church member, "Where will you go when you die?"  Some may say, well I sure hope that my name is on St. Peter's list.  Or something like: I have lived a good life, I am sure the Lord will let me in.  Or my family helped to build this church, that is my family pew right over there.  Of course the only true answer is, "I would be in heaven as my Lord Jesus died for my sins and has given me eternal life through His death for me.  Fath is very active in scripture it is not the same as hope. Faith says, "I have it now, based on " God's Truth."  It is somewhat like sitting in a chair, if I sit down in a chair I am totally trusting in the chair.  "as a man thinks in his heart, so is he."  Prov.23:7   So the bottom line is, what is our heart believing about healing?  There is a big difference between religious intellectual presumptions and Biblical faith.  It is always best if the source of a health problem can first be identified prior to seeking healing.  And to first come to the conclusion in our heart that health problems are always an attack from the enemy of our soul, that it is never the will of God for us to be ill.

Healing, Chapter 3,  "The Curse in Perspective"

Some take Genesis as God's Word as given to Moses in the "Beginning" (of course Moses wrote some 1,500 year later.)   The key to Genesis is to allow the truth of these writings to resonate in your own heart.  First we find that man was originally designed to live forever,  even today we find aging a mystery.  In Genesis we are told that the results of disobedience ends in sickness and death but followed by an age limitation of 120 years,  Gen.6:3.  Most of us are surprised today to consider that we are even allowed to have a life expectancy of 120 years as with Abraham and Moses.  Today we are finding some peaceful cultures that are nearing and passing the 120 year longevity mark.  Personally, with good health, I would enjoy a good 120 years.  At 75 it seems that I am just beginning to gather a little wisdom.  Perhaps that is why with Abraham and Moses God had to wait till they were 80 for them to begin their respective ministries.

For man to love God he must have free will and the free exercise thereof thus the reason for the one "No" tree in the Garden of Eden.  So the story of the fall of man gives us the first causes of today's sickness and death.  Eve first saw that fruit was beautiful on that one "No" tree in the garden.  Lucifer, told her that the fruit would make her wise and that the Creator was preventing her from enjoying an elevated position of truth by denying her that fruit.  Of course Adam was standing beside her in complicity to the same temptations.   These three deadly temptations were also directed at our Lord when He was tempted on the mountain. Matt.4  So basically man was told not to eat a certain food that looked good.  And he was told to trust God for wisdom and authority.  Here we see the,  Lust of the Flesh, Lust of the Eyes and Pride of Life in clear operation, 1 John 2:6..  These are the same three temptations that plague us every day.   Paul writes that if we will not judge ourselves and deal with these temptations when they come that our lack of judgment will bring weakness, sickness and death into our lives, 2 Cor.12:28-31.  If we do not take personal responsibility for our sins and do not recognize that what we sow we will indeed reap we will tend to think that sin has no consequence.  Eccl. 8:11-13.  Possibly the most difficult issue concerning seeking healing is that we must agree with God in His evaluation as to what He considers sin.  This also means that we must also be honest in our study as to what is truly sin  No one really wants to have their sin exposed but honest evaluation is of absolute necessity for healing.  The first concern of Adam and Eve, with the leaves, was to hide.  Cain went a step further and even tried to destroy the light.  But our Heavenly Father requires our full co-operation if we want His help in healing.  We must be willing to allow the Holy Spirit to purge all of the rooms and corners of our soul from a Biblical perspective.  What God calls unclean we must come to also learn to call unclean.  We do not get to vote on what is a holy life.  And without true holiness no man shall see the Lord, Heb.12:14.  Our world today is ever seeking to change God's truth concerning what is sin.  Jude wrote over 2,000 years ago about the need for God's Holy Truth to be honored, please read this little book of Jude again.  St. Paul also covered the same ground in Romans the first chapter and in his letter to the Galatians especially chapters 5 & 6.

Our Lord Jesus Christ came to restore the life that was lost in the fall.  He came to give us abundant life, John 10:10, to remove the curse, Gal.3:13, and to help us prosper and be in health, 3 John 1:2.   But there is a  fight within us between the flesh, "I want what I want when I want it."   and the Spirit:  "...nevertheless, not as I will but as thou wilt..." Matt.26:39.  For victory, Jesus Christ must be LORD in our lives even as he learned obedience in His life, Phil.2:8, Heb. 2:9-18.     The very foundations of Christian healing are subject to being in a place of obedience with our Heavenly Father in today's "Garden."   I agree this is not easy in our world with all the social relationships, seductive environments, stuff and food focus, secular humanism, situational ethics, tax codes, poor Christian role models, Hollywood and etc.  We are being pulled in all directions away from a truly God centered holy life.  And if we give in and dabble in the flesh we will find ourselves becoming weak, sick and many have died in the battle, 1Cor.11:29-30, Rom.6-7-8.  Also if we do not experience the Kingdom of our Lord in power our lives will become somewhat boring and tedious.   So our first efforts towards personal healing should be to come into agreement with our Heavenly Father as to His perspective concerning the Lust of the Flesh, Lust of the Eyes and Pride of Life that may have taken root as weeds in our lives.  It is weed pulling time.  Please read again Duet.28 but in the light of the New Testament of Christ Jesus our Lord.  As God is the same yesterday and today would not these blessings and curses still apply concerning obedience, disobedience and healing ?

Healing,  Chapter 4.   "Family conditioning and Genetic inheritance"

This month we would like to address a difficult concept as few of us realize how we are molded in the image of our generations whether good or evil.  The roll model of our parents and family tend to have a very intrusive impact on our personality and health.  A father has an atrophied kidney, the son has a small kidney on one side.  A 6 mo. old daughter is lost due to kidney problems, a very painful experience.  And several of the children and grand children have kidney problems.  This is seen in families often as due to genetics and we don't think too much about it.  But as we make this a point of research in scripture we find that our Lord Jesus came to bring us health and restoration.  Luke 4:18-21  So we may either believe that this kind of restoration is impossible or we must admit our lack of experience and search the scriptures to find out how to secure this depth of healing for ourselves and our families and others as the Kingdom of God has been brought to earth in power, 1 Cor.4:20.

The Holy Scriptures teach us: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.  Exodus 20:4-6 (KJV)  "My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh" (Proverbs 4:20-22, KJV).

If we believe that our Lord Jesus Christ came to destroy the effects of the curse caused by sin then that would cover any and all physical or mental problem including generational problems of mind and body as part of the curse as well.  In this paper on healing we are also concerned about family conditioning and genetic inheritance.  It would seem that the first step is to accept the possibility that there may be a family curse, if you will,  and usually it is not that difficult to spot.   We have listed eight steps to consider towards the healing of generational curses, we are very sure there must be more.

  1. It is first necessary to recognize the problem and that it is an attack from the enemy and not from God.  Isaiah 5:13-14, Hosea 4:6, Hebrews 5:14, Jeremiah 3:15,  James 1:13
  2. Then step into the position of taking full responsibility for the problem in your family. Psalms 51:3-4, 2 Cor. 3:18.
  3. Fully repent for all sin either for your family or for your own sin and also repent for accepting the condition as being from God.  These conditions are the results of sowing and reaping in the family over many years.  Acts 3:19, Rev. 2:5, 16, 21-22, Rev 3:3, 19, Isa.42.22
  4. Come to hate sin as God hates sin.  Agree with what the Bible teaches concerning sin. 1 Cor. 10:20, 1 Sam.15:22.
  5. Remove anything in your life, home or office that ties you to sin of any kind. Ezekiel 18:30-32, John 3:16
  6. Take a stand against this negative intrusion into your life and that of your family. Luke 11:24-26,  James 1:14-15,  James 4:7
  7. Deeply praise and thank the Lord Jesus for the victory, we stand by faith, not by sight. Heb. 11,  Isa. 35:1-10
  8. Step out in faith to help others in their need of victory.  Faith grows by use. Psalm 51:12-13, Isa. 58:1-12, Isa.59:16-21

Healing,  Chapter 5,  Toxic emotions, Un-forgiveness and Negative attitudes

Let us begin with a rather small toxic word list:  Anger, Jealousy, Hate, Lust, Excitement, Lying, Bitterness, Guilt, Pride (Religiousness), Greed, Addictions, Co-dependency, Selfishness, Anxiety, Manipulation and, the Big Ten.

Most any attitude that removes us from a state of Peace in our Lord Jesus Christ should be considered sin.   On most levels, the chemistry of our body is designed to match our emotions such as fear, e.g.,  fight or flight.  Many of the negative emotions produce toxic reactions that shut down our immune system. If we continue in any degree of emotional negativity it will bring about negative consequences to our health.  St. Paul covered some of this truth in his letter to the Corinthians: "But let a person examine themselves, and so let them eat of that bread , and drink of that cup.  For those who eat and drink unworthily, eat and drink judgment to themselves not understanding the Lord's Body.  For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many have died." 1 Cor.10:28.  Also Deut.28 on Blessing and Cursing.  So as a person thinks in their heart so are they.  As a person sows, so shall they also reap.  Proverbs 6 is also worthy of consideration.  So basically, toxic emotions are the result of sin and make us sick and are killing us off at an alarming rate.

God has created us to live 120 years in good health but it is up to us to do the maintenance, Gen.6:3. 1 Jn. 1:9.  The big problem is that no one really likes to talk about what the Holy Scriptures teach as being sin or even that sin can make us sick and kill us.   A letter justifying homosexuality came into my e-mail the other day written by an Orthodox Bishop. How could he not have read  Rom.1:18-32?  All sex outside of marriage is sin.  God created sex as a blessing and love bonding in a holy marriage between a  husband and a wife and for creating children in a balanced home.  The type represents Christ and His Church, Eph.5:22-33.  Consider how much pain and suffering the wrong use of sex has cost humanity.   God never changes His mind, what He has had written as sin to the Early Church is still sin for us today and many are sick and have died early because we don't agree with God.  Tens of millions now have STD's and many more than that have died of Aids. There is no safe sex outside of a Holy Marriage, safe sex  is an illusion of rebellion.  Just one of many warnings that what God calls sin that results in toxic emotions, sickness and death.

In un-forgiveness, it is so easy to destroy another person with gossip and slander these days and many Christians never consider that it is one of the seven deadly sins, Prov.6:16-18.  Our Lord taught a great deal concerning forgiveness, Matt.6:12-15, so as Christians we mostly do understand the concept that we are forgiven in the same manner and degree that we forgive those who trespass against us. But some how we don't realize that in continuing to keep the negative issues alive, usually to make our selves look good, that we have not really extended the forgiveness that our Lord requires of us.  True forgiveness no longer feels the pain and can hardy remember the names nor the issues, 1 Cor.13.  And the less we replay that old self pity records the sooner the tune will vanish from our mind and heart.  Un-forgiveness can be a deep seated problem and cause toxic emotions and health problems especially between wives and husbands, 1 Peter 3:7.

Concerning negative attitudes, try just one day of not saying any thing negative about anything from George W. Bush to the ant in the garden.  For as we judge then we will be judged.  The Lord has designed the judgment system of eternity so that we will be judged by our own words.  The very words  that come out of our own mouths,  Lk.19:22, Matt.15:11, Eph.4:29-32.  So those negative thoughts that we allow to spin webs in our minds will eventually come out of our mouths and be at our own judgment. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."  Prov.18:21 and the St. James adds, "Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessings and cursing.  My brethren, these things ought not so to be.  Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? ...  But if ye have bitter envying and strife in our hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.  This wisdom decendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.  But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.  And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace, James 3:10-11 & 14-18."

So if we are concerned about our health issues then we need to take sin, un-forgiveness and negative attitudes that produce toxic emotions out of our hearts and minds and as the local's  in Hawaii say, "Dn't talk stnk no-mor."  Also if you don't take the time to read the scriptures, as included, you will have missed the most important part of this chapter on healing.  Next issue we will be considering "Heath problems related to wrong choices."

HEALING,  Chapter 6.  "Wrong Choices"

Probably one of the most difficult issues to face concerning a present or future health problem concerns our personal habits.  We all know that old habits are very difficult to break.  I was born on a hill-billy tobacco farm near Frankfort, Kentucky, the year that the banks closed in 1932.  We ate what we raised which happened to be mostly pork and chicken usually fried in lard and from our beautiful garden in the summer and canned in the winter time, the living was easy.  I still love those home cooked comfort foods even though today I don't hoe corn or stalk tobacco or bring in the hay.  These days it all tends to go to storage.  Wrong choices abound in food habits as with many other areas of accommodation to the world that we live in, Rom.12:1-2.

And to do a little meddling this month.  Tobacco is one of the most difficult "Wrong Choice" habits to break so I will use it as an example.  First we know by statistics that a normal tobacco user will die 5 years sooner than a non-user.  Also we know that the average tobacco user will spend enough money on tobacco in a life time to purchase a home, if including the compounded 6% interest that was lost.  But those of you that have tried to quit find you are in a real battle.  First we have that habit feeling.  It takes about a month to go away when a person really decides to quits.  (You know that a person truly quits when they cease to keep a stash of tobacco.)  Then there is the nicotine body chemistry war that takes 7- 10 days to start to let up.  And then there is that damnable voice inside the head that keeps yelling, "I want a cigarette or?"  when in reality you are trying hard to quit.  So if the voice is not yours then where does it come from?  Ever thought that it could be a demon of addiction trying to rob you of the last five good years of your life?  Perhaps the best five years when you might have written a good book, caught that big fish or loved up your great grand children.  This is not an easy area to consider but personally I have been involved with thousands of young men and women who were set free from tobacco and other addictive drug behaviors by the power of the Holy Spirit.  So this is not theory, this is fact.  Our Lord Jesus came to set at liberty those who were bound, Luke 4:18-19. It is a lie to say that it can not be done just because we have yet to learn how to do it.  Only in humility can we ever hope to find our way into His victory.

This is just one of many areas in our lives where wrong health choices may be made.  Personally I don't have a habit problem with tobacco but I sure love good vanilla ice cream and must say no! a lot when I go to the market.  The bottom line is what has control over us and where are we totally free in honesty.  The simplistic concept of "What Would Jesus Do" has some merit if one knows the New Testament.  St. Paul in Rom.12:1 writes about presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice to our Lord Jesus Christ and to not be conformed to this world.  Do I eat to live or live to eat?  Only you know you, it is easy to hide wrong choices even from wives and husbands and family and from even ourselves.  So make a list of the things that you know in your life are wrong choices and start working with the Holy Spirit on the easy ones first.  There are eight steps for helping with victory as listed in part 4 in St. Luke's, Vol.27, #5,  the truth has come through Jesus to set us free.

The reason for seeking a holy life before the Lord is because it is the best, happiest and longest life.  The items on your bad habit list hinder you from experiencing the best that God has for you in this life.  Those bad habits usually end up causing weakness, sickness and death as St. Paul writes in 1 Cor.11:30.  James writes, "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed.,"  James 5:16.  Of course, please be sure to share with someone who is trustworthy.  James goes on to say that, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."  Space is limited to go into all of the potential wrong choices of life.  But there is one thing for sure if you heart is set to find the truth about a habit, good or bad,  then the Holy Spirit will, in some manner, bring us the truth about the issue.  However there is also a danger when the Holy Spirit has clearly told us the truth and we do not repent and submit to change then we will not hear from Him again until we decide to become obedient to what He has already shown us.  Many have not heard from the Holy Spirit in years and years due to rejecting a truth that was given them long, long ago and not acted upon that holy truth.  Some road blocks to good health and spiritual growth could still be in your life and caused by disobedience,  hate for mom or dad,  unforgiveness,  immorality, pride and the list can be long. So as St. Paul writes, we should judge ourselves so that we are not condemned with the world, 1 Cor: 11:31-32.  Our Lord Jesus came to set us free,  It is a lie to say we are free when we are not.  Our sanctification is a partnership between our free will and the Holy Spirit. Without free will love would be impossible.

Our Lord said, "If you love me, obey my commandments."  Our Heavenly Father is building a Kingdom based on love, truth, unity, holiness, faith and obedience.  Don't get lost in the cares and traditions of this world.  Be one of those who finds the straight gate and enters in to the Kingdom.

HEALING,  Chapter 7.  "DRUGS"

The #3 leading cause of death behind cancer and heart disease is side effects from prescription drugs.

The #7 leading cause of death is iatrogenic medical practices which is when the doctor says "Ooops" under his breath!
http://www.ourcivilisation.com/medicine/usamed/deaths.htm (Alarming statistics.)

When I was just a little boy, back in the Kentucky Hill country our closest little town of Frankfort had three small motion picture shows (as we called them then), The Broadway, Grand and Parkway.  When Snow White came to town it was shown at the Broadway.  I can vividly remember, as a little boy,  to this day when Snow White ate a bite from that beautiful apple from that mean old witch and fell asleep.  But then, of course, perfect love brought Snow White back to life to live happily ever after.  As I remember it, that awful looking poison that was placed in that beautiful apple was brewed in a big black kettle. In fact, a witch is never without the big black kettle, the brewing process, and the cupboard full of icky stuff.  The packaging is the same today.

So in the world today as we try to sort out the good and bad drugs, even some of the seemingly good drugs have nasty side effects.  So once you get into a dependency on drugs of any kind, it seems they are just like glue, and with you forever.  There are always exceptions like anti-biotic's.  I would not be here except for anti-biotic's  taken some year ago.  But the reality today seems that we would rather go to the Dr. pay the bucks, get a prescription and trust the doctor, who is practicing to get us well rather than to find the root cause of our illness.  So our immune system can function properly.  Studies show that 70-90% of illness is emotionally related.  Just 6 minutes of negative stress can crash the immune system for 21 hours.  We are all aware that the use of recreational drugs to alter consciousness can be deadly.  But we tend to take a different approach to Prescription Drugs or think that if it is organic, that God made it and therefore  it must be OK.

In the Early Church St. Paul writes to the Galatian Church (5:20) with this admonition concerning sin: "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious:  sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery, idolatry and  witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. (NIV)  By the way these sins can not only send one into darkness. (Letter of Jude.) But also can make one very sick along the way. The bolded word witchcraft above is the translation of the Greek word pharmacia.  It is where our words pharmacy and pharmacuticals comes from.  There seems to be a definite relationship between the spiritual and many of the drugs that are being prescribed today.

We have two Federal hospitals in America that are dedicated to drug problems. One is in Fort Worth, Texas, and the other Lexington, Kentucky,. And in both of these hospitals, the psychiatrists say that they have a less than one-half of one percent cure rate.  And, the head psychiatrist at Lexington said, "We find it an interesting thing, when a person has a deep spiritual experience, we have a much greater possibilities of curing their drug problem." And, of course, the reason is easy.  Christians know that a supernatural act takes place when a person is born from above, (John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10.)  And a new life begins in Christ Jesus where old things are passed away and all things become new.  And of course, in addition to that gift, there is the potential filling and empowering of the Holy Spirit to help ready us for the Kingdom; (Luke 11:9-13, Acts 19.)  In my 75 years I have come to be very careful concerning any kind of drug, including herbs. At the present time, thank the Lord, that I am  not dependent on any drugs at all.  I have come to understand, and believe that our Creator made our bodies to live a stress free and healthy 120 year. (Gen.6:3.) Abraham and Moses are excellent examples of this blessing.   Of course, we need to learn to discipline ourselves in the areas of nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress management.   Our immune system  is perfectly designed by God to be able to deal with all of life's threatening diseases including cancer if we are submitted to our Heavenly Father and do what He tells us to do in His Word.  (Deut. 28.) is an excellent reading concerning God's position concerning health.  An account from (2 Chron. 16:12,13) of King ASA shares that he had a disease in his feet and died BECAUSE he consulted the doctors BEFORE he consulted the Lord, is also very interesting.

Obviously, we are not against doctors or medicine, but IF the disease is rooted in an emotional or spiritual issue that needs confession, repentance and forgiveness, then to seek medical care and drugs apart from resolving those negative issues becomes occultism.  We try to by-pass the penalty and reaping of unconfessed sin. (James 5:13-16.), and especially between husbands and wives, (1 Peter 3:7.)  Again we do not say don't use medicine or don't go to the doctors but to be very careful as prescriptions and herbs can sometimes can cause more problems than they try to resolve.  This article is written to encourage the saints to first look to the Holy Scriptures. The Book of James is a fine  instruction letter concerning healing.  And we need to look at our lives and stress levels. (1 Cor. 11:28-32, 3 John 2.)   We may simply just need to repent in order to get well.
